Membership
IMVC welcomes new members at any time. No previous connection with Imperial College is necessary! A degree of vocal and musical ability, along with a sense of commitment to the choir, is expected (see below) but we are an accommodating bunch and we are happy to have you join in our rehearsals in order to try us out. You won't be disappointed!
MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

Most of our repertoire is in 4-part TTBB harmony and most singers will have a useful range of 1½ to 2 octaves:

  • Tenor 1 - Male Altos or Countertenors can comfortably sing the Tenor 1 line. High tenors need to be able to easily reach at least top A
  • Tenor 2
  • Bass 1 or Baritone
  • Bass 2 - Low basses at least bottom E

Attendance at a high proportion of our rehearsals is essential to maintain our standard. As the choir is drawn from a wide area of Southern England we no longer have regular evening rehearsals. Instead we meet for 4-hour sessions, mostly at weekends, at a number of venues around the fringes of London, usually with good access to the M25. These average out at one per month but may be more frequent before concerts. In addition we have a social / musical weekend away, usually in January.

The choir is made up of enthusiastic amateurs who deliver a full and rich sound. We comprise, amongst others, a few actors and other thespians and a few trained voices. Coaching in voice production is a feature of our rehearsals. Whilst an ability to read music is not essential, it is an advantage as we do have a large repertoire of pieces well known to us.

There is a great sense of camaraderie in the choir, with many close friendships. New members are always warmly welcomed and are invited to attend some rehearsals to experience the joy of singing in a good quality choir. We also like to enjoy ourselves in the bar nearby!

On joining, new members will be invited to access our Yahoo Group Site on which we publish details of rehearsals, events and music.

Our choir has an enviable reputation to maintain, and we continually strive for excellence. Once admitted, members are expected to maintain a regular attendance at practices and performances.

An annual subscription is currently £100.
